People… 6.15.2018
Always strange to me that a person can get on and off the bus without so much as smiling at the driver.
The driver that just safely carried you into the city… fifteen miles from your safe place that you won’t see again for ten hours…
Oh the afternoon commute…..
Standing room only…

Your outfit is cute.
You walk in the fancy shoes with skill and grace.
Your slightly-overpriced hangbag expertly balanced on your forearm.
And then bus lurches forward, before you’ve found your seat.
Magic and elegance stumbling and gone!
Riding the bus makes us all equally clumsy.
The great leveler of playing fields…literally.

The bus stop side-eye…
We have all done it. Standing in line to load, checking out to see who is next to you, because are not in elementary school. No one stands IN line. Quietly funnelling on to the awaiting coach.
The men looking to see if it MIGHT be okay to get on the bus in front of the woman to his right… The ladies looking to see if they can just jump on ahead of him.
Not that this is 1953, and politeness doesn’t exist, it’s that folks just need to get their morning over with. And no one talks to each other at the bus stop…. Or on the bus… Or ever!
And never the dreaded eye contact…
Nope. Just side-eye.
